HSBC to launch Global AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore and hire new roles in the country

  • New AI Centre of Excellence to hire 100+ AI specialists to build capabilities for global application.
  • HSBC also plans to hire 100 new wealth relationship managers in Singapore.

Singapore, 27 July 2026 – HSBC will establish a new Global AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore by the second half of 2026 as part of a broader investment to create more than 200 new roles in the country across AI and Wealth.

Building AI for global scale
The AI CoE will leverage Singapore’s strengths as a connected and trusted hub where AI solutions are developed, tested, and responsibly deployed to tackle real-world opportunities and issues at scale. This follows the launch of HSBC’s Quantum Centre of Excellence in the city-state in 2025.

Focusing initially on enhancing conversations with customers around their wealth journey, as well as introducing agentic treasury solutions and AI-enabled digital payments, the Singapore-built tools will be designed to scale across HSBC’s global network.

The CoE is expected to employ more than 100 AI specialists, working alongside teams responsible for areas such as wealth management and global payments solutions, together with HSBC’s Chief AI Officer. The CoE is also expected to partner with some of Singapore’s world-leading educational institutions and government bodies, and focus on building a pipeline of talent in areas such as natural language processing, data science, AI governance, and human-centred design.

More Wealth roles added in Singapore
HSBC, Asia’s #1 wealth manager1, also plans to hire a further 100 relationship managers across Premier and Private Banking over the next two years to deepen relationships with affluent to ultra-high-net-worth customers.

HSBC’s latest investments highlight the importance of Singapore to the bank’s global strategy. It also supports the direction set out in Singapore’s Economic Strategy Review (ESR) to build trusted, innovation-led capabilities, positioning Singapore as a beacon for AI, trade and investment.

Georges Elhedery, Group CEO, HSBC, said: “Singapore plays a fundamental role in our growth and leadership position in Asia, and our latest investment in the AI Centre of Excellence and in hiring over 200 new roles reinforces our commitment. Singapore’s strong talent and dynamic ecosystem will help drive our global AI vision - to empower our colleagues to use AI to create a personalised experience for each customer, deliver it safely, in real time and at scale, while keeping human judgement, decision-making and accountability at the core.”

Wong Kee Joo, CEO, HSBC Singapore, said: “Our investment in the new global AI Centre of Excellence and in expanding our team in Singapore reflects our confidence in the country’s future as a leading wealth, trade, and innovation hub. It also reinforces HSBC Singapore’s role as a platform for building capabilities that can serve customers locally and scale across our global network.”

HSBC’s Singapore business is the bank’s fifth biggest, with one of the largest balance sheets outside of Hong Kong. Singapore is central to HSBC’s international Wealth strategy, with investment focused on capability, distribution and client experience, including doubling technology spend over five years and opening four new Wealth Centres since 2024.

HSBC is also strengthening transaction banking platforms and product capabilities in Singapore, including the introduction of HSBC Tokenised Deposit Service and HSBC TradeCash. HSBC is a consortium member of Monetary Authority of Singapore-led Project MindForge, helping develop AI risk management guidance to support responsible AI adoption across financial services.
